Mobile App Frameworks List-Me-Do

Because I still haven't fully discounted the notion of SLAY2 ending up being implemented in HTML5 (and because I like faffing with HTML5 for its own sake anyway) I've spent some time investigating a bunch of web app frameworks recently and – wow! – there are a lot of the things! Cards on the table, I'm pretty much set on rolling my own framework for HTML5 apps using iScroll along with xui as none of the following quite met my requirements exactly (several exceeded them in fact!) I'd urge anyone interested in the area to give them a look, though, as I can well imagine many of them being a good fit depending on what you're after.

The main contenders providing attractive stylings and decent featuresets would be these three...

jQuery Mobile
jQTouch
Web 2.0 Touch

The next set seem more geared towards larger, more structured projects that you have taken the time to pre-plan. Overkill for me but YMMV.

Sencha Touch 2
SproutCore
Mobl
Enyo
Backbone.js
Agility.js

The next two offer more general boilerplate code...

HTML5 Boilerplate
Skeleton

There are a couple of JavaScript libraries specifically designed to offer lite alternatives to jQuery...

Zepto.js
Xui

Finally, these are some further alternatives to the first three. They either didn't grab me as much or I just haven't had time to give them a proper look yet.

iWebKit
ZeptoUI
iUI
ChocolateChip-UI-Zepto
WebApp.Net
Wink
Jo

PS If you want to attempt to squeeze the big guns onto mobile then I guess these are they...

Twitter Bootstrap
HTML Kickstart

PPS Only found this one as I was writing this article!

Foundation 3

So there you go – we're literally spoiled for choice and it sure is fun!
